Full Circle: How Loss, Legacy, and Resilience Led Me to Build Something New

Full Circle: How Loss, Legacy, and Resilience Led Me to Build Something New

Tuesday, August 26, 2025

Some journeys aren’t linear. Mine certainly wasn’t.

I grew up in a home where HR wasn’t just a profession; it was part of our family DNA. My mom served as an HR Leader for many years, and my dad spent his career as a seasoned Training and Development expert, and Union Official. Our dinner table was often a meeting ground for conversations that reflected both sides of the employment relationship—business and employees, leaders and unions, people and policies.

At the time, I didn’t realize how much of an education I was getting simply by listening. Those conversations planted a seed: I was fascinated by people, by the dynamics of work, and by what it means to create fairness and growth in the workplace.

But my path to HR wasn’t straightforward.

In my young adult years, I faced immense personal trauma. I was trapped in a relationship where I endured both mental and physical abuse. The toll on my mental health was so severe that I spent time in a psychiatric ward.

One moment stands out vividly. A doctor looked at me and asked a simple but life-changing question: "What do you want to do with your life? What’s the one thing you’ve always wanted to be?"

Without hesitation, I answered:“I want to be a Leader in HR.”

That clarity became my anchor. From that moment, I built a career in HR, working as an HR Professional for over 13 years. I was good at what I did because it wasn’t just a job—it was personal. Every decision I made was informed by the lessons I’d learned from my parents, the empathy I’d developed through my own struggles, and a deep passion for helping people thrive in their work.

Earlier this year, life threw me another curveball. I stepped into an HR leadership role in November 2024, but just as I was preparing to step into this new chapter, I lost my mom on the 25th November 2024. Her passing, nine months ago, left a void that words can’t describe.

Grief knocked the wind out of me, and I had to step back to heal.

After a sabbatical and a tough job search, I realized something profound: Grief doesn’t just break you; it reshapes you. And sometimes, it pushes you to write a completely new story.

The birth of ComplyHR

This isn’t just a business; it’s a way of honouring my mom’s legacy, my dad’s dedication, and my own journey. It’s about helping organizations navigate HR with confidence, while creating workplaces where people feel safe, supported, and seen.

My path to this point has been unconventional, marked by pain, resilience, and growth. And yet, every twist has prepared me for this moment.

To anyone who’s ever felt like their story was too broken to build from, hear this:

✨ Your scars can be your strength.

✨ Your story can inspire change.

✨ And it’s never too late to start again.

If you’re navigating a career transition, remember this:

“You are not behind. You are building something new, and that takes time.”

Here’s to the next chapter—and to helping businesses get HR right from the start.
